Thoughts of the Week this season are part of a special series in Epiphanytide, the time between Epiphany Sunday and Lent when we hear gospel stories of the growing faith of the disciples and the revelation that Jesus is truly the son of God.
To mark this time, members of our congregation share the stories of their own faith journeys and Epiphany moments that have inspired them and drawn them deeper into faith.
L. Skitch – Thursday, February 5
L-O-V-E is a very important 4 letter word in our Christian vocabulary. “LOVE” should be spoken as frequently as possible during our L-I-F-E, another important 4 letter word. LIFE is happening NOW! We should take the time every day to communicate our LOVE for God and those we hold dear every day as LIFE is far too short to delay expressing the depth of our feelings.
My mother died young and I never did get the chance to tell her I loved her or really get to know her as an adult.
As for God, I went to church as a child and learned to pray then but as I became an adult, I got busy and church and God fell to the sidelines. I still went to church, but the prayers felt rote.
My devotion to God grew again after my husband death. I returned to the Anglican Church and felt my faith grow. I became involved in the community and felt it easier to express love because of my faith.
I am one who missed the opportunities to speak of my love for God and several very dear people – and have endured many years of regret as a result. I have now been praying to God regularly and asking for forgiveness from Him for my deceased loved ones for having failed to tell them they were always in my heart. Through prayer, I have felt God’s forgiveness, and this is a blessing to me.
Tell God and others of your love for them and you should have no regrets. Do it now! And May God Bless you.
Prayer:
Dear Lord,
Fill me with Your Spirit so that I can love others the way You have loved me — with patience, kindness, and humility. May my actions reflect the unity and generosity you have taught. Let my love be a light that draws others closer to You. Remind me, Lord, that love is a choice I can make every day. Help me to love my family, friends, neighbors, and even strangers with a heart that mirrors Yours.
Amen
