The recipient of our 2014 academic bursary checked in recently with an update on her academic progress. Amazing how the loonies and toonies of our parishioners can add up to useful support of graduating students within our community. Here’s the note from our 2104 award winner:
“Hi there! I received the scholarship in 2014 and I just wanted to say thank you again for you kindness and generosity.
I am now completing my second year of mechatronics engineering at the University of Waterloo. I have completed two co-ops so far, one with the University of Waterloo Women in Engineering Society, and most recently I completed one with an MIT start-up in Boston!! It’s been very exciting, and I’m hoping to go abroad for my next co-op: perhaps to Singapore or the Middle East.
I’ll stay in touch and I wish you all the best in 2016.”
All Saints’ church members started collecting pennies in November 2010 and the parish awarded its first scholarship in the spring of 2012. Since then All Saints’ has made a financial award available annually to children of All Saint’s Whitby Vestry members and/or DDSB students in the Whitby-Ajax area who are graduating from secondary school and have been accepted at an accredited Canadian college or university. The 2016 applications will be available in the area schools and parish office soon.
