I first came to All Saints in February 2014 – me and three kids. I’ve since added a fourth! I had moved to Whitby from Kawartha Lakes. I thought about going to my old church in Oshawa, but All Saints was right there, close by. You couldn’t miss it with its beautiful building and the steeple. I noticed it right away.
I sat at the back the first Sunday we came in case the kids needed to leave. Now you’ll find us all in the front pew most Sundays. It’s close to the comfort room and the way to the Nursery and Sunday School. Plus I also like the flat part at the front where I can put my books while I’m holding the baby.
I’ve always find it easy to move around with the kids during church. No one seems to mind fidgeting children or a crying baby (although she’s just entering her screaming phase as she finds her voice, so we’ll see.) The kids love what they call the “green pouches,” which are the activity packs for drawing and things in the pews. They ask for them every Sunday.
The nice thing about All Saints has been that everyone is welcoming without being overbearing. I experienced the opposite went I briefly went to church in Alberta. They took my name right away and they’re still calling me even though I live in Ontario now! No one at All Saints came on too strong. The cards to leave your name are there if you are ready to use them. For a shy person like me, that’s really important. Everyone was respectful and cordial. I am so comfortable here on Sundays – except my arms are tired from holding little ones. Anyone want to take a turn for a hymn or two?”
